Art Deco Course30.09.09 – 16.12.09With this course, the Design History Foundation initiated its activities of teaching and promoting awareness of the most significant phenomena in design, from a rigorous and at the same time heterodox perspective, and with both an international and local scope. Classes were in catalan. More information. The moralising rhetoric of the modern movement and of its historians has tended to overlook the eclectic, dazzling modernity of Art Deco. This style, however, which pervaded every aspect of the applied arts and design in the period between the wars, is currently the subject of more rigorous study that gives rise to exhibitions, publications and collections. Despite its frivolous and glamorous aspects, or perhaps because of them, Art Deco is certainly the last great decorative art in history and one of the twentieth century’s most original assets. |
